It's just three chords; it's only three different lines; it's also the third song I've written in the past couple of months. It begins like this, “this is only the beginning, this nation is going to change.”
...In our staff meeting the other day it was announced that the work our YWAM Haiti campus has completed in the last five months is equal to the same amount we would normally do in 30 years! No wonder everyone is tired. Food distribution, building tent cities, building houses, discipleship of peoples, receiving trailers, distributing items. This doesn't included the registering thousands and thousands of victims from the earthquake, delivering hundreds of ready made meals from the UN (MRE's), opening up and starting a clinic, preparing, starting, and having a prayer room on our campus, as well as hosting nearly 100 volunteers each week.
Our campus has continued to run a discipleship school through this whole time, and the school that I came down to teach at is still running, and even growing.
Through all of this, Jesus keeps calling my name.
“Sarah,” He says, “will you worship me?”
Life sounds so exciting written down. But when you are living it out, it is so hot, tiring, and well, hot and tiring. There are bug bites, and sleepless nights; there are dirty clothes, plugged toilets; there is sickness, there is miss communication, there are crazy times like yesterday...
Four of us had gone to the market for bananas. We couldn't find any, so speaking broken creole we asked a lady sitting selling oranges. She called another lady over and had us follow her through the market for 15 minutes. The four of us girls dodged motorcycles and people pushing wheel barrows. We shuffled through fresh cut meat with flies swarming all over(I wanted to gag). Stepping over puddles of I don't know what, walking through trash all over the dirt roads we followed the lady. A couple of times we looked at each other wondering if we should keep following. A couple of times I lost two of the girls in the craziness of the market, but a young boy in a blue t-shirt was walking with us and made sure we were never out of site. We finally came across beautiful bananas which we purchased.
But that's just it, something so simple as buying bananas always turns into a crazy adventure down here. It's just that everything is so much work.
“Sarah,” asks the Lord, “will you worship me?”
I gave the message at our church service last week. I spoke on the lady in the gospels who poured the expensive perfume at the feet of Jesus. I've always wanted to be like that lady. Who knows that giving what is precious to Jesus is always worth it. I don't know why it's so difficult for me?
“I am looking forward, to what God is going to do” That's the second line of the song. I remember when I first arrived in Haiti back in the fall. I had so much hope; now I'm just tired. But, I've come to a place where I know that it won't be me that can bring change, it's the presence of the Lord, and only the Lord that can truly bring, change to any nation.
The last line of the song is, “Jesus said that His presence would never leave us, and He's going to keep His word.” “Yes, Lord,” I say, “I will worship you.”
Amen
